If you’re interested in keeping your baby’s smile in tip-top shape once their little chompers grow into place, then our Gloria Barredo, DMD dental team has some helpful tips for you! There are things you can do on a regular basis to help your child grow into the strong, healthy, and beautiful smile they deserve, and those things are:

Use fluoride: Fluoride is a beneficial mineral that can help strengthen and nourish your baby’s little chompers. So, it’s best to give your child fluoridated water, like water from your tap, once they come of age. You can give them water by mixing it with their formula or by giving them a bottle or sippy cup of water. To know how much water to give your child, please contact your pediatrician.

Clean their smile: It’s important to clean your baby’s little teeth on a regular basis. You can do so with a baby toothbrush (one that has a small head, long handle, and soft bristles) and water. Make sure to clean your baby’s teeth twice a day. To find out when to introduce toothpaste into your baby’s oral hygiene routine, feel free to ask Dr. Gloria Barredo.

Be careful with bottle feedings: Baby bottle tooth decay is a common dental issue for many babies. This is because parents fill the bottle with sugary liquids and send it with the child to bed. It’s best to avoid doing this at all costs. Also, try to avoid putting sugary drinks in your child’s bottle as much as possible. It’s best to only have breastmilk, formula, and water in the bottle.
