Are you having a hard time identifying the cause of your gum pain? If so, our dentist, Dr. Gloria Barredo, and dental team are here to help you! There are many causes of gum pain—some are big while some are small. The small causes can be something as little as something stuck in your gums or between your teeth. The big causes might be something like:

-Gingivitis: This is the first phase of periodontal disease, which is also known as gum disease. This is a dangerous dental issue that you should take seriously. You fall victim to gingivitis when you fail to remove plaque from your teeth daily. The plaque bothers the gums and makes them red and swollen. It even makes them bleed on occasion, like when you eat, brush, and floss.

-Periodontitis: This is the last stage of periodontal disease. It occurs when you avoid treating gingivitis. At this stage, your gums move away from the teeth, create pockets, and encourage infection.

-Impacted wisdom teeth: If your wisdom teeth try to erupt from the gums (which is usually in your young adult years) but they don’t have enough room, they can become impacted. This causes extreme pain in the jaw and gums.

If you think one of these major issues is causing your gum pain, please remember to schedule an appointment.
