Folic acid is an important nutrient to consume during pregnancy because it can decrease the likelihood of birth defects in your child. Foods such as broccoli, leafy greens, cereals, and berries contain folic acid. You should also consider keeping your sugary food intake low since these foods can increase the plaque buildup in your mouth and cause tooth decay.

While you should place your efforts on eating healthy foods, remember to avoid foods with little to no nutritional value. Avoid sugary substances since they cause plaque buildup that can ware away your tooth enamel. Sodas, sports drinks, fruit juices, cakes, candies, cookies, and sugary cereals are foods you should watch out for. By reducing your sugar intake, you’ll keep your oral health strong during pregnancy.

Lastly, be cautious when snacking often during your pregnancy. Snacking is known to help reduce feelings of vertigo, nausea, and motion sickness for women who are pregnant, but excess snacking can cause plaque buildup, which leads to tooth decay.
